Goblins, Goblins, Everywhere......
« on: May 31, 2017, 09:44:45 AM »

The aging man leaned against the wall holding his side. Bruises covered his face and body, his thinning grey hair and under clothes were matted in sweat and blood. Sildar looked at Wolfe through his single eye was wasn’t swollen shut. “I must be going mad. Wolfe the drunk has rescued me?” He chuckled. “Strange days we find ourselves in." His labored breathing seemed to calm over the next several seconds, without the goblin’s blade at his throat. As the others approached he offered them a weak smile. “My thanks to you friends. A fine display of battle prowess.”

"You know Wolfe?" Westra asked, moving to stand near the older man, concern clear on her face. To her, he seemed apt to fall over at any moment, and the way her body seemed to wait with some tension said as much, as though she expected to have to catch him at any second. "So you are from Neverwinter, then? Were you escorting the caravan of weapons?"

She pulled her water skin from her pack, and offered it to the ailing man.

He took the water skin and drank, spilling most of it down his face. When it was nearly drained he let out a sigh before answering her. “Aye I am from Neverwinter, born and raised. And who from the city doesn’t know of the Half Orc who liberates the people. Or the Half Orc who spends most of his nights in one of the guard posts in the city. Depending on who you ask.” He smiled, appearing to have no opinion one way or another.

“I am Sergeant Sildhar Hallwinter, Fist, just the same as you, if I am not mistaken. Lady….?” He gave her a moment to answer before continuing. “We were transporting the weapons to the outpost 50 miles south on the High Road. When we made it to the Triboar, there was some kind of wreckage blocking the main road, it was late in the day so we decided to make a stop near Phandalin. Anyways, I assume since you are here, you found the wagon.” His eyes widened then as a realization hit him. “Have you found Gundren and my two men? I had four goblins on me before I knew what happened, they appeared out of nowhere. I hope those young lads are ok. Gundren could hold his own, but the other two were just rookies. The Captain didn’t expect any trouble on this assignment so I had no issue taking the pair. ”

Wolfe lets out an unappreciative grunt at his celebrity status and he moved to settle himself down against a nearby wall. The Half-Orc was hurting from the nasty gash he took from one of the goblins, and he was slowly removing his chainmail to bind his wound. He set the armor to the side and took off his soiled shirt. Withdrawing some bandages from the his pack, he withdrew the water he'd taken from the stream earlier and cleaned both the shirt and his wound before wrapping it up.

"Didn't find anyone else. Just you." Wolfe remarked from his seat on the side. He reached for the flask that had the good stuff; the only one left and sighed in discontent. He'd have to restock when they got back to town. Opening it up he took a hit and sighed as the burn flowed through him, already providing some relief.

"Just goblins that hit you, or something else?"

A pained look crossed his face and he hung his head for moment. “Poor Lads, Watcher guide them.” He watched Wolfe mend himself in silence, a situation Sildhar had also found himself in a handful of times.

“I must have taken a club, or rock, to the head during the scuffle because I awoke here to that beast of a bugbear, Klarg, beating me and laughing the entire time. I saw no one other than him or the goblins, but as I waned in and out of consciousness, it became apparent the weapons, and us humans were not the reason for the attack. This Black Spider wanted Gundren and his map to Wave Echo Cavern. The Dwarf and his Brothers, Tharden and Nundro, discovered the entrance recently. They intend to open the mines again. The story goes, there is some kind of spell forge within the halls of the cave that can imbue weapons with powerful magic.”

He straightened himself. “Can I trouble you for a hit Master Wolfe?” He continued, taking a long draught if Wolfe is inclined to share. “Gundren must have been taken to Cragmaw Castle, Klarg had mentioned they would take him there, but I must admit I have lost track of time. The Dwarf’s brothers, Tharden and Nundro should already be in Phandalin, though I only know Gundren.” He closed his eyes, even talking was exhausting the old man.
