Oh, You Think Dark Elves is Your Ally? (Post S20/Open)
« on: December 29, 2017, 05:17:05 PM »

In her twenty years of life, Catriona had no interactions with the dark elves known as Drow. They never made their way to the Island Kingdom of Lantan and even in Waterdeep, she did not come across any.  Yet, somehow, in the week since meeting these odd people, she’d run into them not once but twice.  Both times it was an antagonistic encounter, the latest one resulting in personal attack.

Conclusion? They were awful.

Poison was still affecting some of the group and she could not help with that.  The opportunity to take an hour of respite was hopefully good enough for the toxin to be purged.  Finding a dry spot, she smoothed her skirt under her and set upon the ground.

Before she got to working on GIZMO, she put the WEENIS out by her in a passive mode.  Maybe some readings might be interesting to look into later.

As that device slowly whirred on its own every so often, the pale pearly blonde retrieved her tinkerer’s kit.  The youthful countenance of the bespectacled scientist occasionally took on a look of determination as she went about re-constituting the clockwork owl.

Wolfe was not in a good way, at the moment. He had gotten fairly banged up by the Drows' poisoned blades and had needed some down time to get himself back together. The blademaster had pulled out his flask and figured, soundly, that the bourbon he packed away would be the best medicine to combat the poison that was in his veins. He leaned back against the rock wall, his features more lime than dark green, and he rested his eyes for a moment.

Cat's work on Gizmo awoke him from his nap, and he looked over at her hands piecing together the Owl.
"Sorry about your pet, Doc. It was a lot of help back there. You built 'im, yeah?" He asked as he sat up a touch straighter with a wince, pulling the flask to his lips for a quick pull. "You able to put him back together?"

The relative silence of matters was creepy down here; the echoes in the bored out tunnels.  The stillness of the the air was somewhat foreboding, likely making any rest down here less than properly ideal.  She was getting used to the sound of her own machinations, tools ticking and cranking as she re-adjusted the broken owl-drone.

Catriona tended to focus on the task in front of her, particularly one such as this, but still every once in a while she’d glance over to see how the poisoned warriors were doing.  Were they getting worse? Better?  Captain Goldbrook had only just encountered a grisly end naught but a week ago.  Now here she was with assassin venom in her veins.

The curmudgeonly half-orc seemed to be doing what he always did; maybe he was fine.  At this point, who could tell. Given his penchant for the bottle, one could possibly assume that he was immune to poison as is.  For a moment, she entertained the thought of maybe his snoring would test as toxic releases.  Flammable at the very least.

Removing her specs, she rubbed her eyes some and continued to tinker up until Wolfe spoke in her direction. Prone to being startled, she kind of was caught off guard, but not terribly so.  She regarded him more evenly, her un-burdened countenance presenting more comely than one would expect, if not one vulnerable seeming.  The glasses were almost like figurative shields.

“You haven’t expired!” she tried her hand at some humor.  “No worry, I optimized him for field work and repair.  I figured he would run afoul of bad conditions;  better him than you all ... ummm... you know what I mean.”  rambled the flaxen haired scientist.

She looked down at the half complete clockwork owl.  “Yes, I anticipate he will be operational before we resume.  I am going to tweak his survival sliders. “  Beat.  “I tried to practice with some mock combat scenarios a few days ago but I suppose its always different when you are actually in the real situation.”   her hands move to continue their work.

“Shouldn't you, umm.. Worry more about the drow weapon venom than my owl?  I imagine it's rather dangerous.” Her nose scrunched slightly as she made the query.

"Heh. Not yet, anyway." Wolfe let out a soft chuckle, tipping his flask up in salute toward her and took another pull of the burning liquid. He exhaled slowly with a sign of relief and let his head find a more comfortable position against the rock. "Not for lack of tryin."

Whether that was humor or some bleak depressing thought was up to interpretation. He was mostly just his buzzed, humored note. He grunted as he rearranged himself for comfort in his armor, then nodded at her work.

"He did good. Took one for the team. I get what you're sayin -- was some good forethought into 'im. He was a real asset.

Real life fighting's a lot different, yeah. You train as best you can but sparring and katas ain't the same as having some fool come at you with an axe. Or in this case, poisoned knives."
He grunted again as he reached down and touched at the small wound the Drow had found on his person. Wolfe had bandaged it up good and knew he'd be fine after a day or two of rest. Just another scar in a litany of them.

"Naw. Not the worst I've gotten. Drow shit makes you go take a nap if it gets in your blood, like it did Westra. Me it just made me feel a bit pukey." He let out a low and deep chuckle. "And given my usual diet, I'm always little pukey after gettin jostled around too much."

He nodded to the Paladin who was also taking a catnap. "You happy that Westra's back?"

Were she in closer proximity (and had less affinity for working with strong chemicals), that toxic booze breath might have made her eyes water.  It was certainly odd to hear him chuckle as he did, given how he had been quite grimm for days on end.  Maybe the poison was some kind of joker venom level toxin…  Of course, laughing was good right?

“Umm.. thanks.  I just try to be useful is all.”  Her shoulders rose and fell in a minor shrug and she closed a chamber on the owl’s body and then put on it’s head carefully, albeit with a somewhat comical looking twist.  “Pfff.. that’s true.  But that’s how learning is done, adaptation.” she agreed with a nod of her head, hair bobbing as she did so.

“One of those gritsuckers nicked me, but it wasn’t too severe.  I’ve had worse, too.”  she offered enigmatically before looking towards Westra when asked such an odd question.  “I ...umm… don’t understand?  Why would I not be?  Aren’t you?  You are ..like..more acquainted than me.”  Her voice was lower; it was weird talking about someone when they were just yonder.

Of course, if he was inebriated, that would explain this line of questioning and the time and place it was taking place, at least in her mind.  But that would be a source of a whole bunch of new problems, regarding safety in this moment.
